Solent Symphony Orchestra

Conductor - Steve Tanner                Leader - Kirstie Robertson

Most of the concerts given by the Solent Symphony Orchestra over the past 25 years have featured solo items in the programme. Our soloists have included many distinguished musicians, especially talented local performers, including members of the orchestra.

A particular feature of this orchestra has been our relationship with the Portsmouth Music Festival and with local schools and colleges. Each year we offer the Solent Symphony Orchestra Concerto Award as part of the Portsmouth Music Festival, the winner playing a concerto at the next February concert.

Memorable solo performances by our own members in the past have included:

Lucinda Willits playing the J S Bach Concerto in A major for Oboe d’Amore and Strings in June 2017.

Richard Moore playing the Pauer Bassoon Concerto in September 2014.

Our principal trumpet, Jon Yates, playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto in July 2010

Karen Kingsley playing the Poulenc Piano Concerto in September 2010

Bridget Bartholomew and Allan Mead playing the Concerto for Two Horns and Orchestra by Haydn in October 2009.
